Default Advice on pants

Anyone know what I should be looking for in a good pair of off-road pants. I hear you should stay away from over the boot pants if possible.

Default pants

i like my over the boots pants they zip off past the knee for short, have zippered cargo pockets, and if you get the thick ones by shift i believe they have a lower velcro liner that covers the boot tightly, and also i can fit them over my jeans, helps wtih cold weather and they are very durable.

I LOVE my Klim over the boot pants. They have been very durable and the venting on them is great! Two thumbs up!

Probably because it such a cool look to ride with your pants tucked in

I have a pair of 3 in 1 tourmaster riding pants, their great for cold weather, rain, and hot weather. I can remove the quilted liner, water proof covers and there vented for cool air in hot weather . There for the street but they work great off road. I need to get some dirt pants one of these days but what i have works great. I also have a pair of Firstgear Katmandu pants but those will be primarily for my Adventure rides on the KTM.

Good to know. I was reading through ADVrider and in the DR650 thread, someone swore against the OTB pants. The link he posted to an article on "why" no workie though.

Like most everything... it depends.

Some OTB pants lack heat resistant material. Some bikes have super hot exhaust pipes right next to the leg. Combined these two and we have ventilated OTB pants due to holes melted into them.

The Klim pants mentioned earlier have a very good heat resistant material on the inner leg.
